Members of the Yorktown Police Department were dispatched to Route 35 shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 4, where there was a reported crash between Broad Street and Evergreen Street.
Upon arrival, officers stated that the initial investigation determined that three vehicles were involved, two of which sustained heavy damage. The third vehicle had left the scene prior to the police arrival.
According to police, officers, found Yorktown resident Benny Morello, 45, the third driver, on Route 35.
The investigation determined that Morello left his lane, struck an oncoming vehicle on Route 35, causing an injury to a passenger. Morello was also allegedly driving drunk when he fled the scene of the crash.
Morello was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration greater than .08 percent and leaving the scene of an automobile crash involving an injury. He was also cited for moving from his lane unsafely and failing to stay in the right lane.
Following his arraignment, Morello was released on $100 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Nov. 15 to respond to the DWI charges.
